Buckle up for our very first Readventures Book Club Trip - the Ghost Town Getaway! I have curated a one-of-a-kind rustic adventure that takes you to Nevada and California's best Wild West! We will meet in Las Vegas, and roam through the otherworldly Death Valley, visit two ghost towns, and meet April's book author Brent Underwood.

Trip Details:

Friday 4/26: Gather in Las Vegas by 10 am + Explore the Death Valley National Park

Saturday 4/27: Visit Cerro Gordo Ghost Town in the morning + Attend Meet & Greet with the Author, Brent Underwood at Spellbinder Books in Bishop, CA

Sunday 4/28: Visit Calico Ghost Town in Yermo, CA on the drive back to Las Vegas

April Itinerary

Here is everything you need to know about this Reaventure and how to prepare.

Day 1 - Friday, April 26
- Arrival: please be in Las Vegas, Nevada by 10 am (I recommend arriving the night before to accommodate for flight delays)
- Group Meeting Spot: please meet your Readventure group at Sunrise Coffee (located at 3130 Sunset Rd, Las Vegas - just 2 miles from the terminals) by 10 am, for breakfast. We will eat and wait 30 minutes before the group set off for our adventure.
- Depart Las Vegas by 10:45 am for Death Valley National Park. Our first stop is 2.5 hours away.
- Visit the following points inside the Death Valley National Park: Badwater Basin, Artists Palette, Zabriskie Point, and more.
- Lunch at Stovepipe Wells
- Drive to our Tipi Lodge for the night, in Olancha (~2 hours)
- Enjoy dinner with sunset at the on-site restaurant, arriving around 7:30-8:00 pm
- Chat, chill, rest
Day 2 - Saturday, April 27
- 8-9:30 am: wake up + have breakfast at the Tiki Lodge restaurant
- 9:30-10:30 am: Have a guided discussion about the themes of the book and our impressions, as we enjoy the swimming pool/Tiki motel amenities and spaces.
- At 11:00 am: head out for Cerro Gordo Ghost Town (~1.5 hours)
- 12:30-2:30 pm: Explore Cerro Gordo, visit museums, talk to locals, buy some merch, etc. We'll have a snack here too (I'll bring).
- At 2:30 pm: Head to Bishop, CA (~1.5 hours)
- 4-5:30 pm: Early dinner in Bishop
- At 6 pm-8 pm: Attend a Meet & Green with Brent Underwood at Spellbinder Books in Bishop.
- Spend the night at a cute Guesthouse in Bishop. Sleeping arrangements: 2 private rooms with 1 queen bed and 2 Bunk Beds.
- Chat, chill, rest
Day 3 - Sunday, April 28
- 8-9:30 am: wake up + have breakfast at the Guesthouse or we can go to a local cafe
- 10 am: head out for Calico Ghost Town (~4 hours)
- 2-5 pm: Explore Calico Ghost Town, have lunch there. Paid tours are not included in the visit, but are optional.
- At 5 pm: Head back to Las Vegas, NV (~2.5 hours)
- 7:30-8 pm: Say our goodbyes
- If you are staying in Las Vegas overnight, please book your own accommodations for the evening.

Night 1 Accomodations

Tipis of Olancha is focused on providing a Nomadic experience with beautiful silhouettes. Each tipi is handwoven and painted by Native Americans, and has a ceiling fan, water coolers, and heaters, and premium bedding for a true Glamping experience.

Restrooms are provided throughout the park. There are places to relax and look at the evening stars sitting around a fire pit with friends.

Sleeping arrangements:
One or two 18 ft. Tipis with two beds each, AND/OR 20 ft Tipi with three beds (enough for 5-8 people)

Night 2 Accomodations

Eastside Guesthouse welcomes all travelers to experience the adventures that Bishop, CA has to offer.

They fused a boutique hotel setting, inexpensive hostel budget, and a community atmosphere. We have a full kitchen and community space designed to encourage our guests to share their adventures and meet new people.

Sleeping arrangements:
2 private rooms with 1 queen bed and 2 Bunk Beds (enough for 6 people)

Is airfare covered as part of the trip cost?

No, airfare is not included in the trip fee. Participants are responsible for booking their own tickets to the designated meeting point and arriving on time for the start of the trip.

Are meals included in the trip cost?

Meals are not included in the trip fee to ensure affordability and flexibility for all participants. The fee covers nonalcoholic beverages (bottled water, coconut water, sparkling water) and basic snacks (fruit, chips, health bars, etc). We will decide on dining as a group, along the way and stop to share meals. Participants are responsible for covering the costs of their meals.

What accommodations are covered?

The trip spans 3 days and 2 nights, with participants responsible for arranging their accommodations in Las Vegas before and after the trip if needed. The trip officially commences on Friday, April 26 at 10 am and concludes on Sunday, April 28 at 8 pm. Lodging costs for Friday and Saturday nights are included in the trip fee, while accommodations for Sunday night are not covered.

Optional group accommodations may be arranged for Thursday, April 25 and Sunday, April 28 nights - if there is sufficient interest, with costs shared among interested participants.
